Before Covid-19 hit us, hands-free door openers weren’t very popular. Many people prefer the “real deal” and don’t want to splash out on a fancy door opener. This is, of course, understandable, but things are a little different now…
Due to our current climate, hygiene is at the forefront of our decisions. Are we a safe distance apart? How many things does a customer touch before they get to us? This is all now a massive part of our daily routine.
If you want a Coronavirus-friendly home or shop, investing in a contactless door opener should be high on your list. The best part about this investment is that handless door openers don’t have to be for this pandemic solely; you can carry on using the door opener for many years to come. Not only will it give you one less thing to clean, but preventing the spread of any form of germs is a major plus.
For this post, we’re going to show you the best hands-free door openers currently on the market:
How Do You Open A Door Without Hands?
I.materialise – 3D Printed Door Opener
I.materialise is a company that specialises in 3D printing. I.materialise created a 3D printed hands-free door opener; you use your elbow to open the door by putting your elbow in the designated slot and pressing downwards.
Due to the pandemic, i.materialise released the design files for free, enabling anyone with a 3D printer to download the document and print it themselves – how amazing is that?! But don’t worry, if you don’t have a 3D printer, you can purchase 2 of the hands-free door openers for £36.28 excl VAT.
Philip Watts Design – Shoe Pull
Shoe Pull is a heavy-duty device that can be attached to the bottom of any pull door. It’s designed for public spaces to discourage the spread of germs.
The Shoe Pull is a metal plate that curves at its base. The curve allows you to grip onto the Shoe Pull with your foot and pull the door towards you. It’s a great device if you want to keep your current door handles but have an option to reduce the spread of germs.
Shoe Pull is currently £36, with a 10% discount if you purchase 6 or more. You can also purchase Shoe Pull with a doorstop, which increases the price to £42.75. What’s more, Philip Watts Design is donating 20% of all profits to NHS charities for the next 12 months.
Indoors Outdoors – No Hands Door Opener
This device has the same idea and outcome as the Shoe Pull; however, it’s smaller, more convenient, and works the opposite way round.
The No Hands Foot Operated Hand Free Hygienic Door Opener is a piece of metal with a small hook-like curve that faces the ground. Instead of putting your foot on top of the curve and using a downward pull motion to open the door; you place your foot under the tiny curve (which acts as a foot anchor) and pull your foot towards you.
The No Hands Door Opener is currently £9.95 for black, dark grey, grey, or brown; however, has the option for a custom colour that costs £11.95
Gripnix – Hands-Free Door Opener
Gripnix is a hands-free door opener that operates similarly to the 3D printed opener. You attach the device to your door handle and use your forearm to open and close the door.
The device has a greater curvature than the 3D printed opener, which gives you more flexibility with the body part that you use. Simply slot your forearm or elbow into the device and press down, the device then operates the handle and pushes the handle downwards, opening the door.
Gripnix are currently selling this device for £25.50 excl VAT, and it comes in black, grey, and white.
iSOUL – Contactless Door Opener Tool
If you’re going hands-free in your home then invest in a door opener tool. This tool removes the need to replace your door handles or purchase a device to fix to them.
By holding the tool at one end, you use the hook end to grab the door handle. Depending on the type of door, you can either pull the door towards you or press the handle down to open the door.
This is a great device for home and personal use, but wouldn’t hold up well for public use; it would be cheaper to purchase a hands-free device for your doors instead of buying individual tools.
The iSOUL tool is currently available on Amazon in black, metal, light grey, and pink. Black and metal are £7.95, pink is £7.99, and light grey is currently on offer at £4.99.
