Let’s be honest, internal door colour trends don’t change very fast. Whilst we’d love to tell you about some exciting new door colours for 2023, the reality is that the same front runners will be gracing homes around the UK.
So instead of suggesting you paint your internal doors a bright colour or unusual shade, we’re going to help you use the classics alongside the paint colour trends sure to take the interior design world by storm in 2023.
1. Oak
Oak is the most popular internal door colour and has held the title for many years, so we don’t expect anything to change this year. Oak doors can help to add earthy tones to a room and help to anchor your décor in the natural world.
If you want to keep to warm tones and muted neutrals, Dulux’s wild wonder works well with wood. It helps to capture the magic of nature and provide a calm yet uplifting feel, continuing the theme of their Buzz colour palette.
A more vibrant shade like Benjamin Moore’s starry night blue would look striking against oak doors. A combination of deep blues and natural materials is always a winner.
2. White
White interior doors are a staple, coming in second in the popularity stakes. They provide a blank canvas to build a lush colour palette around, making it easy to choose any style you wish.
The Benjamin Moore 2023 Colour of the Year is raspberry blush. This vivacious shade is balanced nicely with a crisp, fresh white door.
Whilst the Dulux colour wild wonder does tone with wood, a flash of white helps to add contrast and clean lines.
3. Black
For 2023, the interior door colour that’s still climbing in popularity is black. This year it’s become much more sought after as the trend for grey has begun to wane. Black internal doors are bold and striking, they can make a room feel stylish especially if you’re keeping a minimalist look.
Black doors tend to pair well with calming neutrals. You can completely transform a dull or bland room with a black door installation. Add colour with soft furnishings rather than using a strong shade throughout your entire room.
4. Grey
Grey doors are still a favourite, although they’re not as fashionable as they have been in recent years. There are plenty of ways to make your home unique as there are lots of different shades of grey to choose from. If you opt for grey, look for a shade with blue hues to update the look for 2023.
This versatile shade can be paired with lots of different colour palettes. For a strong look, grey pairs beautifully with Pantone’s colour of the year Viva Magenta. If you prefer a more neutral palette, use off-whites and wood tones.
5. Green
A more unusual and chic choice for internal doors is green. There are many shades available but fern or sage green tends to be the most used by both amateur and professional interior designers.
Earthy greens can work well for colour blocking if you want a bold effect. If you’d rather make a feature of your doors, keep your walls neutral.
6. Paint Your Own
Now you know how to pair classic doors with the colour trends for 2023. If that’s not creative enough for you, why not paint your own?
Choose a primed or unfinished door, select one of the leading paint brands and innovate for yourself. There are so many beautiful shades to choose from, the most important thing is to go for something you love and add that personal touch. Your décor is a form of self expression and eye catching doors can set your home apart.
