Fire Door Sets

A standard door set comes with door leaf, hinges and linings already in place which makes it the easiest way to fit a door. Our fire door sets come with all the door related components you get in a standard door set, upgraded to your required fire rating. This is in addition to intumescent strips pre-fitted in the linings. They have a different hinge system too. You’ll sometimes hear them called ‘pre hung fire doors’.

They're pieces of fire-resistant material which go in the door frames of a fire door set. In the event of a fire, the strip expands which prevents the fire from spreading. An intumescent strip comes as part of your set and arrives already fitted into place. They’re sometimes called 'intumescent seals'.

The door slab in our internal fire door sets are 44mm thick (for FD30) and 54mm (for FD60) as opposed to the 35mm thickness of a standard door set. The depth of the frame lining provided in your fire door set is optional on checkout. Bespoke quotations can be offered to support structural openings as narrow as 70mm and as thick as 150mm.

There are different specifications for 'fire rated doors' with different levels of fire resistance measured in minutes. FD30 rated sets offer 30 minutes of fire protection, FD60 rated sets offer 60 minutes of fire protection and FD120 rated fire door sets offer 120 minutes of fire protection. 

Pre hung fire doors must meet standards set by the BSI. There also has to be intumescent strips in either the door or the frame. They should also be manufactured in a compliance-audited factory environment.

If it’s a glazed fire door with a glass panel design, the glazing options need to be certified and factory controlled (insulating/non-insulating). Our entire collection has been tested to ensure they meet these safety standards.

The easiest way to fit a fire door is to purchase a complete set. Unlike fire doors which are supplied unassembled, a fire door set is delivered with everything fitted in place (apart from the handle and doorstop). This means all you need to do is slot into the aperture. Installation takes about 20 minutes, providing a labour cost saving which in turn helps reduce overall onsite costs. Installation of any fire rated door set should be done by a fitter with experience and accreditation.
