How thick are FD60 doors?

To provide adequate fire protection, an FD60 fire door is usually 54mm wide. Compared to standard sizes for internal doors, this is thicker to keep a blaze at bay for longer.

Do I need fire door frames?

Yes, a fire door frame is one of the crucial components of fire door installation. Without the correct frame, your fire door won't be able to function correctly. As fire doors are thicker than standard doors, you'll need a frame to reflect this too.

How do they provide fire protection?

The materials, thickness and intumescent strips all play their part in fire protection. These all combine to stand up to heat for longer than a standard internal door and stop the spread of fire. An FD60 door is designed to give twice the protection of an FD30 fire door, so you're safer for longer in the event of a fire.

How can you tell if a door is FD60?

Certified FD60 interior fire doors will have a label including a circled UL or WH on the top or hinge side of the door. This indicates that they have achieved the appropriate fire rating.
