Generally speaking, however, we recommend painting over your primed internal doors to ensure that you get the most out of them, both in terms of aesthetics and durability!

How Do You Paint a New Primed Door?

Buying primed white internal doors makes the painting process much quicker and easier. A primer coat is the foundation on which your paint job is built. It fills in porous surfaces, blocks stains and helps the paint stick to the door properly. Buying primed white doors saves you the time and effort of priming your door by hand.

You should always paint your internal doors before hanging them or applying hardware like handles, levers or locks. It's probably best to do this outside to avoid unwanted paint getting on your flooring, walls or upholstery.

Many prefer to lightly sand their pre-primed doors prior to painting in order to ensure a uniformly smooth finish. In the unlikely event that the prime coat is damaged, you should sand down the damaged area and re-prime by hand. Adding an undercoat may seem like overkill for a primed door. However, we find that it's a great way to ensure a perfectly smooth finish.

Once the undercoat is dried, you can apply your topcoat. We recommend applying two coats in your chosen colour for a perfect finish. Be sure to leave enough time between coats. We also recommend lightly sanding between coats to remove any tiny air bubbles that could undermine the finish.

Once both coats have been given time to dry, you can add your hardware and hang your primed internal doors in place.
